Being the Maid of Honor comes with some responsibility. Helping plan the wedding, planning a wedding shower, a bachelorette party, and being totally available to help on the wedding day.
So, how do you keep it all straight?
Staying organized is almost the only way to keep everything on track. It’s helpful to have a notebook just devoted to wedding “stuff”. That will keep all of the important dates and phone numbers in one place.
Reaching out to the venue’s coordinator or the bride’s wedding planner is also a great way to stay connected and organized with everything that’s going on. Letting them know you’re on the same team, and what your ability to help looks like, will make planning flow much easier.
Be honest with yourself about how much you can help. If you offer to pick up wedding favors, then drive across town to mail invitations, and then the next week you volunteer to go to cake tastings with the bride, you might find yourself at home with no groceries because you forgot to go in the midst of helping. Make sure you take care of yourself as well as your bestie bride to be!
Ask the other bridesmaids for help as well. Most of the time, they are more than happy to pitch in to help with showers, or the bachelorette party. Delegating tasks is good for everyone! Teamwork makes the dream work!
Lastly, recognize that there will be some stuff you can’t help with…and that’s ok. Communication is key in any relationship but in the bride/maid of honor relationship. Understanding what the bride wants and needs help with, will help you show up in the best way possible.
Being able to stand next to the bride on her wedding day is an awesome experience. Your support and love through the planning process of getting there, that’s why she chose you.
